i havent made a post in the debate section so i made this one
ok heres the issue, should antibiotics have stricter control on where they are sold/who they are sold to/ and how to obtain them.
Problem: As most of you guys know, you can obtian antibiotics ALMOST anywhere for less than a buck and they really do help you when your sick. but now ppl are starting to use them for every little thing, and now as consequence new strains of germs/bacteria/virus are becoming resistant/immune to them thus making them worthless and making the germs/bacteria/viruses stronger

This is the most random debate...
I dunno, i don't think that there is much control that we can put on them. That every little thing may be important. Better than none.

if things like germs etc are growing stronger simply because of that then some rich company will come up with a stronger anti-biotic to counter it. From the sounds of it the anti-biotics your talking about is the 'weak stuff' compared to some very strong anti-biotics out there. So in my eyes if people are taking them for every little sniffle or whatever its them to blame not the medication.

Stricter controls won't solve the problem, as there will always be doctors willing to write a prescription for anything just to shut a patient up. Public education might help - it would be better if people learned to ask for a test before they ask for antibiotics. If you can't identify the bacterium causing the infection, you can't know which antibiotic will treat it effectively.

Apparently you two haven't been keeping up, but what soul speaks is the truth. As we repeatedly use antibiotics, they are becoming more and more resistant to even our strongest drugs. It's soon going to be a big problem (not one that some rich company can solve by throwing money at it). There's also the secondary problem of our immune system not getting any exposure to bacteria, this is mostly a problem for children. Our immune system needs to be exposed to bacteria from time to time in order to "learn" how to fight it. There's been a problem recently of kids having weak immune systems because their parents use antibacterial cleaners on everything, preventing their kids from getting any real exposure to bacteria, thus preventing their immune systems from learning how to fight it.
The best way to solve this would be to A: find a new antibacterial agent/method (which is not easily done), and B: have companies cease from using antibiotics in their cleaners. The problem with that is: they wont, because it makes them money, so we'd need government regulations to force them, and frankly, I'm never fond of the idea of bringing the government into a situation, but it could very well become a matter of international medical safety. More and more frequently, hospitals are coming across drug resistant strains of bacteria.

When I was in the doctor last year for a sinus infection and fever they did not give me antibiotics... My symtoms progressed to the point that I got even more sick and infection spread to my ears... throat.... coughing... I could not sleep. My fever was extremely high. I went back to the doctor multiple times and they finally put me on antibiotics! But, it was too late and I couldn't get better it seemed! I was so sick that they thought I might of had to be adminted to the hospital! So, they gave me a penicillin shot and a steriod for my headache... that FINALLY healed me completely..
My point I am trying to make is that because of these silly people who get antiobiotics for every little thing... I couldn't get the medicine I needed to start with that would of saved me a lot of time and missed school!
My opinion is... if it gets that bad like Tsumetai said it will... then we do need a new drug implace of that one. To prevent that from happening I think we need to make the drug more hard to get a hold of.

Tsumetai is absolutely right, and you know an issue is for real when we both agree on something. I have taken a Microbiology course and I'm going into the medical field so I know a thing or two on this subject. The more our industries pump out, the stronger the microorganisms (virus' bacteria and so forth for the less technical people will become. Heck right now the strongest ones can easily not be affected by penicillin itself! Right now they have a shot for chicken pox for kids but you know what, I would never let my kid take it. I would want my kid to get chicken pox now then later. Because if you get chicken pox when your an , it can easily kill you! Something that is harmless for kids, its lethal for s! Bad also puts up a good point. We need a system that makes sure that only people who need it get it, and convince doctors to be careful. Now they shouldn't be paranoid as what will happen to bad will happen to everyone. Another problem is that if you mix certain prescription together you can easily make illegal ! Final thought, Help is right when he speaks about how people need to public education about . I've heard things in my Nutrition class that make me scared about what I eat. I know that reality doesn't truly work that way to fix society but hey this is just a suggestion on a forum. I just hope that everyone takes this serious and not just another P V gimmick So in short, read your medication labels, and don’t let your kids take chicken pox shots!
