Is it me, or is there multiple cases of bad things happening because of Video Game "influence"? I mean, with games like GTA (And all of the spin-offs) and Postal, do you think that it is kind of "brainwashing" kids into thinking that killing and committing crimes as such is acceptable?

Brainwashing? No. Any normal person can determine the difference between games and reality. Those that can't, IE those you hear about in the news, are idiots, and deserve the harsh reality of natural selection. Don't blame games, games are innocent. If you must blame something, blame something else. Like Rap

The "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." principle.

Yes, but unlike guns, games actually have an influence on people.

Well in my opinion, who can enjoy games like GTA? I mean, You kill civilians. Oh wow, like shooting something is fun. Well it is, but I think it's a bit.. A LOT overdone. Oh and TheFailingOne, That is one of the cleverest things I ever heard, I might put that in my sig.. Well that post of small writing at the bottom of an actual post.
About the influence bit, if I enjoyed GTA, my parents will ban it, but if then never knew I played it, they would still continually give me lectures about that that it is bad etc etc. I know it is, but it's really frustrating hearing the same thing over and over.
In my opinion, GTA (although I never really played it) is rather sickening. I know it's just a video game, but you just feel uncomfortable. Not everyone, it's just me really.

I've played most of the GTA games, and I can tell you I don't make it a habit to walk around the streets of san andreas shooting people in the head. What I like is being able to drive any vehicle anywhere, as fast as you want. Where else can you drive a motorcycle that can do 200 MPH off a 500 foot cliff? Feel like driving a MAC tanker truck the wrong way on the freeway? GO FOR IT! and as long as you don't actually hit the cops, they don't care. But the most fun probably is getting a 4 or 5 star wanted level and see how long you can last and the best part is, driving (or flying) is probably 80% of the game.

Woah, you got a huge point there. I actually agree with basically everything you just said, but I probably wouldn't want to pay $100 dollars for JUST that, Like even HALF LIFE which in my opinion is not even close to how good its rated, is more worth that. UT, is definetly (Ffs, Another spell check pl0x Quizz-.-) worth teh' money. I mean even the old UT, I would pay $100 dollars just for it.

PC games are $60 MAX when the come out, usually only 50. Half Life is every bit as good as it's rated so definetly - definitely pl0x - please Get firefox 3 man, it has a spellchecker that works like MSword that checks as you type. Right click the underlinned word, and correct. For instance, Underlinned is actually spelled Underlined.

If computer games brainwashed people or influenced them to the degree the media would have us believe then Flak cannons would actually exist, you wouldn't be able to step out of your house without hearing "GET OVER HERE" before seeing someone getting a spear on a rope through the chest and gamers would be a feared group in the overall community.

I don’t believe that the games literally brainwash people, but some games can desensitize reality. I wouldn't let children play GTA but that doesn't mean that if they did, they'd go around killing people in real life. I'm just saying we need to be careful about how long and how much we play video games. I mean I’ve heard of a few people who played World of Warcraft so often that they had to be hospitalized. I do believe though that if you're a parent you should lay rules down for what games children should, and shouldn't play. When I was a little kid, I didn't think it was fair, but now as an adult I'm glad they imposed the rules they did.

Thanks Quizz. Although I know about the 'pl0x' thing, I was just bored:P and I mean I WOULD pay 100 dollars for it. Also I'm talking Aussie Dollars. Half life sucks compared to other games (Lets create a post on that). Also Phantom, you got a point, but if my dad didn't convince my mum to let me play UT and other M / MA games, I would be one of those immature kids running around. Also I basically only socialize in these games as IRL I barely fit in; so I don't talk much to them. Also I wouldn't be very smart compared to now. I learned more Maths from Rune Scape then school..... I'm serious, What kind of school teaches year 5's this: Draw 3 rows of 12 eggs. Or 6491+1=? BUT if I was a parent, and my kids ONLY talked about guns and how they killed or murdered that guy, I would slow it down.

to answer you rugal i agree with you people take games way too seriously now a days even if they aren't committing crimes as such they are taking it way too seriously in other ways. For example a few that even play UT get absolutely buggered off (to watch language insert a word of your choosing for buggered) when someone that is not as 'good' as them in their books kills them and i always laugh when i see the "WTF, the GODS SAKE" and countless other comments simply because of that. Quite frankly i can see some of them punching their keyboards throwing their mice and so on. but back to the original post i agree people are taking games way too seriously these days as for the 'GTA' series of games although in my opinion the game sucks it cant be blamed for everything which is what a lot of people do (just my opinion the last paragraph) but anytime ive seen that a crime has been committed connected to a video game or something like that GTA seems to get the focus of the blame. I personally dont see a huge difference between GTA and say UT you are still killing others be it opponents or civilians. Games have ratings i believe the parents job is to maintain an order of game play for their kids if they have the slightest thought they are taking it too seriously they need to stop it. As for adults well to me as Quizz rightfully said it they cant seem to determine the difference between games and reality
on a side note d**n cows you pay ALOT for your games

Not really, for the people with an average or above brain should know that this is only a game, it gives you temporary freedom to your own world but if you choose to do it in real life you can either copy games for a good cause whatever the world decides the definition of that is, otherwise you should just drown in your ideals and die.
